Explaination Of Private Label Rights

If you obtain private label rights to a product it means you can modify it anyway you like and place your name on it as the creator without giving any credit to the original source.

You should not confuse these rights with any sort of resale or resell rights as these are quite different. In most circumstances having the private label rights to a product or a set of articles does not permit you to pass on any rights to your customers.

Of course sometimes there are exceptions to this rule and that is why you must always carefully read the terms and conditions or rules of the seller before proceeding.

So for now think private label. Let's dwell on what that means for a moment by examining the following fictitous example.

In our example the number one paint company has just released a brand new paint product. On the can of this paint is a clear label saying this paint is proudly produced by number 1 paint company using all of the finest ingredients, etc.

You are a painter and love that paint but you don't want your customers to know where the paint comes and you prefer them to think it is your own special formula. You make arrangements with the number 1 paint company for the private labelling rights and pay X amount of dollars for the right to do so. What that means is you now sell or use that paint under your own label.

You would put the paint in your own cans with your own labelling. So the label would now read - This paint is proudly produced by Mr Painter using all of the finest ingredients, etc. The new label has your name on it instead of the original company who actually produced it.

You are happy because you now have a product that you don't even have to make, just re-label it and sell it under your own brand. The original company is happy because you are paying them X amount of dollars for the privilege.

So we come back to our online business and it is a very similar scenario. Product creators produce ebooks, articles or even software and sometimes release the private label rights to them.

You usually pay a premium price to get the right to re-label these products as your own and sell them under your own brand name. It is a great way to get started without the hassle of trying to create your own products.
